16th Minute Newsletter 1.0.0
Our first 16th minute release! We discuss compound AI systems, kubernetes multi-tenancy and how data is plays a part in our lives everyday.
16th Minute is a newsletter about articles, topics, ideas around technology, cloud computing, data and software engineering, AI, etc. that we find interesting and want to share to a larger audience in hopes of starting conversations around them. These newsletters will typically consist of three to four articles or posts and a small blurb about what we found to be interesting.
Compound AI Systems
Berkeley AI researchers discuss their thoughts on the future of AI development. Operations teams (DataOps, MLOps) will be important. Systems thinkers will play a large role. This is how I think we will see the industry grow, such that AI systems may be writing the day-to-day feature code, software engineers will play more of a systems engineer role. They will still need to understand what good and bad code is (probably).

Multi-Tenancy with Kubernetes
I find this topic fascinating and something that has come up during our 16th minute conversations at RK as we have been working on building Konfig. What does multi-tenancy mean? How does it scale? What are the security concerns? There are some really interesting players in this space and is something you should look into if you are running enterprise software.

Seeing Like a Data Structure
This is a very interesting piece written by Barath Raghavan and Bruce Schneier of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School, on how we live in a world of technological abstractions in 2024. Effectively we interact with "a data layer on top of reality". I had the intuition that this was true but I had never heard it formalized into words. This one was thought provoking. I would be curious about how this resonates with folks.
